| Abstract: | Program Note: Reflecting on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings and a love of old maps, "A New Race to the Moon" is a semi-improvised work for saxophone and multi-agent orchestra that is derived from the physical features of the moon as documented through maps created in the 1960s. Exploring themes of landscape, technology and human presence through artistic process, the interactions between human and virtual performers enable each performance to be both unique and recognisable. |
| Description: | "A New Race to the Moon" is a work for virtual multi-agent orchestra and saxophone. First performance by Luke Harrald (electronics) and Derek Pascoe (saxophone). The work premiered at Praxis Artspace - 68-72 Gibson Street, Bowden, SA - as part of the event "Orbital Resonance", curated by Matthew Timmis, and presented alongside the visual art exhibition "Good News from Outerspace" by Nicholas Hanisch and Cassie Thring. |
