Amorphous Magnetic Materials (AMM) offer extremely low iron losses, specifically at higher supply frequencies, which make them a good candidate for high-efficiency and variable-speed motor applications. However, due to the handling and cutting limitations, AMM has not been utilized widely in rotating electrical machines. Although a few studies have been reported utilizing AMM in motor applications, these studies were based on uncut versions of AMM, mainly in ribbon form. This paper offers an axial field motor, which utilizes cut-AMM as a stator and offers higher power density and better utilization of windings. The method used to cut the AMM stator is described, and the details of the experimental test rig including the drive circuits are given. In addition, the paper explains the analytical design of the machine and provides test results on parameter measurement and performance characteristic of the prototype AMM machine.-
