Abstract: This paper presents results of a general analysis of the radial force production capabilities of bearingless induction, synchronous reluctance and surface-mounted permanent magnet motors using the same stator. A specific analysis is performed for a 2.2kW commercial ac motor stator. The conclusions from this analysis are used in the design of the two-pole and four-pole stator windings for this stator. The bearingless stator is capable of being combined with different types of rotors. A test rig for measuring static radial force was designed and preliminary results for unbalanced magnetic pull are shown.
