Abstract: | A thermoacoustic air conditioner that utilises a branched duct network is described in this paper. It was found that the standard four-pole methods to describe the acoustics in the branched duct did not match the predictions from finite element analyses. Additional correction terms to describe lumped inertances at the branch connection are required to properly describe the acoustic behaviour of the system. Branched ducts of square, rectangular, triangular, and semicircular shapes are considered, and the corresponding terms for the lumped impedances are given.
