Abstract: This report was the basis for the deliberations of the Workshop on Population Mobility and HIV Vulnerability held Kempinski Hotel, Jakarta, 15 November 2001; and, for the formulation of recommendations for action to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia. Provides an indication of geographic locations to focus on for not only future sentinel surveillance but also issues to be addressed in programmatic responses where the mobility of people has not been previously taken into account. Uses existing information to provide a comprehensive picture of the levels, patterns, composition and trends of the various types of contemporary population mobility occurring within Indonesia, as well as from and to the country. Insofar as it is possible using existing data, the study aims to indicate how population mobility in Indonesia is linked to the existing and likely future diffusion of HIV/AIDS.
