dc.description.abstractThe mixed reaction in critical circles to Massine's symphonic ballets "Les Presages", "Choreartium" and "Symphonie Fantastique" performed in Australia between 1936 and 1940 is discussed. Although the performances did not create a fight between symphonic Puritans and Cavaliers of ballet, they succeeded in creating an enhanced level of ballet reportage in Australia, highlighting the intricate link between music and dance.-
