Abstract: Labor’s Forward with Fairness with policies promised to restore ‘balance’ to federal workplace laws in the wake of the Howard government’s Work Choices legislation. This article provides a detailed overview of the Rudd Government’s reform programme, in particular its centrepiece, the Fair Work Act 2009. It examines the principles on which the new legislation is based, the extent to which it really differs from the system it is replacing, and the prospects for a simpler and more stable approach to labour regulation
