Abstract: We have designed a fibre optical parametric oscillator for efficient generation of high-peak-power ultra-short pulses in the near-infrared. A generic algorithm is used to optimise the design parameters of a tellurite microstructured optical fibre for efficient four-wave mixing. Using the optimised fibre, we predict the generation of signal pulses with 300 fs duration (FWHM) and peak power of 1.6 kW at 880 nm using pump pulses of 500 fs and peak power of 5 kW at 1560 nm.
