In the “single-grain” protocol used in luminescence dating, mineral grains from the sample are measured individually and an average age determined. Individual grains vary widely in their luminescence response and the final precision is, to some extent, affected by this. We describe a first step in trying to understand this variability for some feldspars. It makes use of a unique Fourier-transform thermoluminescence spectrometer, which is briefly described.-
