No title screen on video. Opening frame: Friend of man gets tough. Wild horses stampede in crowded arena at rodeo in Adelaide, South Australia.en
Original newsreel footage of the rodeo held on on 3 September 1932 on Jubilee Oval to celebrate Sidney Kidman’s 75th bithday. Attended by over 45,000 people, the rodeo was organised by his employees with stockmen attending from Kidman’s properties. It remains Australia’s largest public birthday party ever for a private citizen. Les Daley composed a poem Kidman’s Boys for the occasion. The Jubilee Oval was the home of Adelaide’s agricultural shows until they moved to the Wayville show grounds. It was just to the north of the then brand new Barr Smith Library and is now part of the University of Adelaide grounds. The Barr Smith Library, the Cloisters, the Royal Adelaide Hospital nurses quarters and the former South Australian Institute of Technology can clearly be seen in the background.en
