Abstract: The development of tools to improve the management and control of fisheries management, weed and pest management, and conservation of endangered species with the aim to improve decision making is discussed. Ecologists and mathematicians are working on recent developments in management and control, covering a broad range of approaches to population control, optimal management and harvesting of native fauna, and the management of threatened species. Such an issue was also delivered at a special session titled 'Management, control, and decision making for ecological systems', which was part of MODSIM05, the 16th Biennial Congress on Modelling and Simulation. The special session was sponsored by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems.
