Abstract: The effects of cefotaxime and ceftriaxone treatment on nasopharyngeal carriage of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) were prospectively studied with 53 children with invasive Hib disease. Nasopharyngeal aspirates were monitored during therapy. Hib was eliminated within 2 days in 92% of patients and was eliminated in all patients after the third day of antibiotic treatment.
