Abstract: This study describes the basic morphology and structure of the dermal denticle from Trygonorrhina dumerilii, and assesses its utility as an ageing structure for rhinobatids. No banding patterns were identified on the surface or in sections of enlarged dermal denticles, which may indicate that these structures are not suitable for estimating age in rhinobatids.
