| Description: | “Twilight on Dove Lake” and “Just Walk Beside Me” are interludes (total duration 10’) for a small orchestra commissioned by the Hush Music Foundation for the foundation’s fund-raising recording ‘The Magic Island’. Both works were premiered in Hobart on December 7 2013 by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. The pieces were recorded by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Northey and released on CD HUSH013 with the assistance of ABC Classics. These works have been broadcast frequently since the release of the CD. The Hush Foundation invited Koehne to observe the activities of the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, with a view to composing music specifically to be used as soothing background music for medical procedures: a form of music therapy. Koehne used melodic material from his children’s theatre work Shadow Dreams combined with new material and orchestrated into two short stand-alone pieces. |
