Abstract: Some problems concerning the deformation of a class of functionally graded anisotropic materials under generalised plane strain are considered. The elastic moduli of the materials vary quadratically with the spatial coordinates. Strip loading of a half-space, a slab on a rigid foundation and a simply supported slab are considered with particular attention to materials with a narrow strip of material with small elastic moduli along a plane boundary surface. Numerical results are obtained for some particular materials.
