Abstract: This report is one of three that are being prepared for the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), exploiting data from the large scale surveys of young people that have formed part of the evaluation of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) Pilots. Data from the large scale longitudinal surveys, undertaken as part of the evaluation of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) pilots, allow comparisons to be made between the experiences of white, Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi and black young people as they reflect on their experiences during school years 10 and 11 in the months following the end of compulsory education. This research report explores the transitions made by young people from ethnic minority backgrounds from compulsory education, and their subsequent education and labour market experiences.
