Abstract: Symptom monitoring is not new. It has been occurring in one form or another from before the time asthma was recognized as an entity. Symptoms have resulted in people seeking help/diagnosis/treatment from health pro-fessionals before the era of lung function tests. Symptoms still play a major part in people presenting to health professionals which, in turn, may lead to the diagnosis of asthma.
